The online marketing world is an ever changing one and as social media experts we are always looking for new innovative means of marketing to our clients. The image sharing social network that is known to be used mostly for sending “Naughty Pictures” to your contacts could also be a potential marketing tool for businesses. Here is why we say so… First thing is first, what exactly is SnapChat? Well simply put, it is a mobile application that allows users to send photo messages that automatically delete themselves shortly after being viewed. Usually the photos remain on the user’s device for up to 10 seconds before being removed. One can see why it has the naughty element to it right? Snapchat users range between the ages of 13-25 (mostly) and logs over 400 million messages every day, so if that is your target markets maybe you should look into marketing on this platform. The limited lifespan of the content makes it perfect to send it to users with a call to action that creates a sense of urgency and excitement. Generating leads/sales from Snapchat Leveraging this platform to generate leads or sales could be tricky so for now let’s stick with what works for other brands. Here are some examples of what other brand have tried and tested.
- VIP Treatment / Behind the scenes
New product or special event? Why not give your fans a preview of what it looks like or where it will be held. Setting up a stand at a convention? Send your fans some behind the scene footage to spark their interest, merge it with a hashtag and get the conversation started on social media. This will not only help the virility but you can then track the engagement on the campaign.
- Insider Info
If you are hosting a webinar or speaking at a conference, you can use Snapchat to give the attendees inside info that would not be given to them by other speakers. Just before you go on stage you could send real time updates, tell them that you are about to go up and should show up if they don’t want to miss anything.
- Sweepstakes/ Lucky draws
Humans love testing their luck of the draw. Snapchat is great for holding something like this. Ask your customers to send you snaps of themselves enjoying your product and a lucky winner could win a month supply of whatever you are promoting. Remember to place a sense of urgency on the competition so that people are more willing to enter.
If you want people in your store then coupons are the way! Being able to send it directly to your target market, on their mobile within seconds, well that is another ball game! Provide a coupon to your contacts and give them the rules of how it works. You might want to state that the customer should take an image of themselves with their best hungry face and in return you would then send them a redeemable coupon. Bear in mind that if you send them the coupon it does have an expiration date, ie 10 seconds later so they should not open the message until they are in store. These four pointers on how to gain sales on Snapchat for businesses are the some of the best practices that we have seen work, but by no means the only ones.
